I think there was a lot of wisdom when as kids, we were ordered to always brush our teeth every morning.
That’s because without doing it, it’ll be hard for us to communicate.
Talking would become an issue.
People will look the other way once they smell your bad breath.
And you’ll have self-confidence issues too.
Well the truth is that sometimes, I don’t feel like brushing my teeth. But when I remember the consequences, I just do it.
What am I getting at?
When building your website to get more customers, there are three pages you just can’t do without:
- Your about page
- Your services page
- Your blog page
Why is the services page so important?
It’s because when you develop content and post to authority blogs, the services page is often linked to in the bio section.
So you don’t want to neglect it, or leave it to the last stage. Having that page is a primary way for people to know more about what you do.
So what should go on your services page?
- A brief description of how you want to help clients. Don’t skip this part. You could include a short introduction about the results you get for clients.
- A breakdown of your services. Don’t just list them. Sometimes, clients need more explanation because a lot of them don’t really know the right solution to the problem they have.
- If you don’t have any, you can ask some past clients for testimonials of your work, especially if you delivered quality to them.
- A link to your portfolio. Having a blog is a large enough portfolio for your clients. You can talk about client projects in your posts, create case studies and link to those as your portfolio. Or you can link to a dedicated portfolio page.
- A way to contact you. Super important. Don’t tell them to go to your contact page. Include a form on your services page that’s linked to your email so they can contact you.
For your About page, there’s just one thing to take note of: Be as transparent as possible. Here’s a guide on how to create an About page that works: Are You Making These 7 Mistakes with Your About Page?
And finally, the last page is what I’d call your secret weapon. I’m talking about a blog.
A blog page is a collection of posts published on your website. These posts actually help you rank higher in search.
Contrary to conventional thinking, posts don’t have to be written. You can use your blog to showcase how you create your work for clients. You can use your blog to show your audience the behind the scenes of how you do client work (more like “The Making Of”), or how you build, or how your service helps solve your clients’ problems, etc.
A blog post can be written text, designs, images or even video. This depends on what you’re comfortable with.
In the final lesson, you’ll get a handy checklist to help you implement everything in the last 6 lessons.
