This is a simple step by step process for setting up WordPress on your new domain.
1. Visit http://yourdomain.com/cpanel to login to your cPanel account. For example, https://rathersure.com/cpanel. Login with the details sent to you by your hosting provider.
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll land on this page. Scroll to the bottom and click “WordPress” as you’ll see in the image below.
2. On the next page, click “Install Now”.
3. You’ll land on the following page. Follow the directions below to install.
Software Setup
1. Choose Protocol: Leave this as http://
2. Choose Domain: Select your domain from the dropdown.
3. In Directory: Delete whatever is in the field. Ensure it is blank.
Site Settings
4. Site Name: Enter your site name.
5. Site Description: Enter your tagline for your site.
6. Enable Multisite (WPMU): Leave this unchecked.
Admin Account
7. Admin username: You can enter preferred username. Either leave the default as admin, use your site name, your name, or anything else you choose.
8. Admin Password: Use a strong password
9. Admin Email: Ensure you enter an email you already have access to.
Choose Language
10. Select language: Choose your preferred language.
Select Plugins
11. Limit Login attempts: Tick this box.
Advanced Options
12. Database Name: Leave this as it is.
13. Table Prefix: Leave this as it is.
14. Auto Upgrade: Tick this box.
15. Auto Upgrade WordPress Plugins: Tick this box so you don’t have to manually upgrade plugins yourself.
16. Auto Upgrade WordPress themes: Tick this box so you don’t have to manually upgrade themes yourself.
17. Automated backups: Select Once a week so you regularly have backups.
18. Backup rotation: Any number above 2 is suitable.
Select Theme
You don’t need to select any theme here as you’ll be given a theme by me.
19. Email installation details to: Enter an email address you already have access to.
The click Install.
With this, you’ve successfully installed WordPress on your domain. Once you visit your domain, you’ll see the default WordPress theme on it.
To login to your dashboard, simply fix “/wp-admin” after your domain. For example, http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin and use the login username and password you entered during installation.
